Story & Sigil
Story & Sigil restores historic engravings as personal marks for modern life.
Across heraldic archives, thousands of crests remain — once used to represent identity, character, and lineage.
Each was drawn and cut by hand, then printed on paper.
The studio restores these marks without altering their original form.
Nothing is invented.
Nothing is embellished.
Take a moment before choosing.
These are not made to be seen quickly.
Sometimes the right crest is not chosen.
It is recognised.
“To watch what cannot be held.”
The Studio Approach
A Personal Commission
A crest may be commissioned with chosen words, colours, or personal references.
These elements are prepared with care in the studio, allowing the historic mark to take on a more personal character while preserving the integrity of the original engraving.
A composition contains one colour field.
It creates a point of attention, not a statement of importance.
A Working Archive
Historic engraved crests form the foundation of the studio. Each mark is selected from the archive and carefully restored, preserving the character of the original engraving while preparing it for modern use.
Prepared in the studio
Each crest is balanced and restored from the archive, then prepared for modern use.
What emerges is not a reproduction, but a mark ready to continue its story
Made to Be Used
Each commission includes a digital crest prepared for everyday use, allowing the mark to accompany correspondence, profiles, and personal spaces in modern life.
Alongside this, the studio provides a unique Studio Record, an A5 card produced on archival fine art paper and wrapped for keeping, serving as a quiet acknowledgement of the mark and its place in the archive.
